Inspired by the romantic atmosphere of 1920’s cinema, the circus world, and by the whimsical universe of Edward Gorey, Canadian artist Shannon Toth developed a unique, imaginative style ranging from delightful children's book illustration to oil paintings with symbolic darker undertones.

Laura Bifano's whimsical nature

Growing up on Vancouver Island and spending summer weeks in epic surroundings (when going camping with the family in the middle of the woods) gave Canadian artist Laura Bifano a special sense of nature displayed in her vibrant, whimsical gouache paintings. An avid drawer since childhood, when she entertained her friends and family with her imagination, Laura fancies surrealist art, graphic narrative including Pokemon cartoons and retro video games, and “cheesy 70's science fiction”.

Enchanting porcelain beauties

Marina Bychkova, originally from Siberia, accomplished her doll making art in Vancouver, Canada after studying Fine Art at Emily Carr Institute and taking advanced jewelry design classes. The result took shape as the Enchanted Doll the artist’s own label of exquisite porcelain ball jointed dolls. There are many doll artists out there but few of them can create a thrilling universe of their own. The name was inspired by Paul Gallico’s fictional short story called Enchanted Doll, “where a young woman creates dolls with so much love that they enchant people at first sight with their compelling, delicate, life-like beauty”. I think we all can agree that Marina Bychkova brought this story to life.

Black Eyed Suzie victorian dolls

"Willow wander hither and thither, through wide meadows and verdant valleys, over babbling brooks and sibilant streams. So slim, she bends with the breeze, whispers the wind-song, wonders where her love has gone..." How can you not fall in love with the bizarre, melancholic art dolls of Sarah Faber, each blessed with their own dark but witty story?
