Yulia Brodskaya paper art

I am always stunned by what paper artists can make from this everyday material. I mean who would have thought that strips of paper, shaped and glued to a background, could make such riveting portraits? Russian born, UK based artist Yulia Brodskaya explored many creative mediums from traditional fine art to textile painting, origami and collage before settling to the craft of quilling.

Joe Webb: innovative old school collages

After working as a graphic designer for several years British artist Joe Webb decided to put digital technologies aside for making smart and fresh-looking paper collages. Using found imagery, limited at two or three pictures, Webb creates by hands (and scissors) a single image that speaks a clean message. His works play with the ideas of old class glamour and glossiness - all fabricated and hallow, the clash between western world and other cultures and the hilarity of humans littleness as opposed with the immensity of universe.

Pop-art satire of Ion Barladeanu

Life hasn't been kind with Romanian artist Ion Barladeanu. During the communist regime he worked as grave digger and doorman, and after year 1989 he was reduced to a homeless condition. And, despite his incredible talent, his life didn’t change much after the whole world discovered his witty parodic pop-art collages. Born in 1946, in Zapodeni, a small Romanian village, which he left at the age of 18, Barladeanu started making collages as a way to escape his dark reality.

What is art all about

If you ask Mexican artist Eduardo Rubio what is art about, he will surely answer you he doesn't believe in a definitive theory and that modern art does not rely on creation, but on the unique artistic characteristics used to make a fresh but lasting statement.
